Deck list:
I posted my favorite deck list for op09 on the HeartPiratesTCG twitter page, as well as on my personal discord. I believe the best decklist you can craft is one that is consistent and has a great match up spread that will compete against the meta for 10 rounds of a big tournament. Which is why you should always dedicate multiple tech cards to decks you are not great against and are likely to see in a tournament. You should also have cards that are great into a variety of other match ups that are generically good. So for example in the list I am very fond of, I'm playing 1 Kaido 1 Mihawk 2 Gravity blades and 2 Jozu's. These cards are incredibly strong into some of the best decks in the meta. Kaido helps a lot into shanks and Lucci for when you are running out of gas from applying heavy pressure. Jozu and mihawk are great into the mirror match, and gravity blade is generically good into everything. In every tournament I have ever gotten a top placement at, It is my belief that a big part of that is because my deck list was great across the match ups that helped me win games I normally would not win.
Mulligan guide
Before using your mulligan you need to figure out if you're going first or second. If youre going first, the main cards you're looking for are perona primarily, and one of your big combo pieces which are jinbe, weevil, or Boa. Teach is also great card going first but you have to have a great hand because using teach too early will result in a low hand size.
If you're going second then you should look for jinbe and weevil of course, but if you don't have them then sengoku and perona are great cards going second.
In general you would love to have a 2k counter and some type of way of to re use your resources like bounce law and jozu.
Favorable meta match ups
Purple Luffy, Shanks (barely), Blackbeard and Bonney
General tips
Doffy is a deck that has to be played differently depending on the match up, but there are a few basic tips with Doffy.
Firstly when it comes to bouncing sengoku or perona - If you have teach on board and he is likely not going to be removed, bounce back sengoku so you can guaruntee your leader effect. If you don't have teach OR you are running out of resources in hand, bounce perona to get bodies out for free.
Also a huge rule for this is if you need to dig for tech cards that you can't search for then you have to bounce back perona even if you have a teach on board because digging for your gravity blades or Kaido is incredibly important in certain match ups.
Lastly on your 6 don turn Boa + Leader effect is insane value. on 5 don you can start playing 2 characters per turn if you have teach by hard playing one warlord and using teach for leader effect. 7 Don turn is great with Teach and Jozu.
Vs individual match ups
Vs Pluffy - You absolutely need to go first. It allows you to establish a character before them, but even better instead of playing jinbe and law to bounce back zoro you can play weevil instead. Its also important because if they end up taking the first 7k attack (which they normally do) They are in danger of pudding on the next turn. Because if they take a life they go to 8 cards in hand. The goal when playing against Purple Luffy is to apply a ton of pressure before they can successfully establish a big board that you cant really deal with. But you need to do this tactically, if you keep resting all of your characters then the board that you cant contest just punches into it for free. You need to establish characters that are played active, because you can keep them alive to apply pressure the next turn. Which is why Boa is incredibly valuable in this match up. Your best 10 don play is gecko bring back boa then play boa and activate leader effect. You're establishing 2 characters active and a third rested while attacking for 7k. Also Kaido is massive in this match up if you are healthy and are running out of resources. Watch out for FREAKING 7C SANJI because that card can surprisingly end games.
Vs Bonney - This match up is pretty straightforward, you hard mulligan for your tech cards like jozu gravity blade and kaido, but also keep a hand with deck visability like perona and your normal jinbe plays. The goal is to keep attacking with your bodies to chip away at their life and hand size all while bouncing their stuff. RULE OF THUMB - build a board THEN BOTTOM DECK THEIR STUFF. I see so many people gravity blade cavendish and call it a day. The goal is to bounce cavendish once or twice with jozu and after establishing jozu and a few other bodies, thats when you gravity blade. If you gravity blade before you have pressure all you do is just reset the board back to neutral. If they get greedy and keep a high hand size after you bounce back their stuff just hit them with a pudding. I really like going second in this match up because you can play jozu on curve and bounce their carrot or cavendish.
Vs BlackBeard - This match up is so easy, the only way you can lose is if you just completely brick. Teach is massive in this match up, but try not to overplay your hand because they can starve you out of resources and you just run out of stuff to play. Your 1 drops are really important to get rid of things like Doc Q and Laefette. Also towards the end of the game these 1 drops can just go for lethal because they have absolutely no cards in hand. Try to play some active characters every turn to force them to have the removal for it. Try not to counter with any of your 5k bodies either because you need to play them.
Vs Shanks - This match up is barely favored for Doffy if they have a good hand. How you lose this match up is them getting to 10 don and being healthy. Very similarly to Purple luffy. They establish a board you cant get rid of and you run out of gas. These big attacks you just cant counter out of so you need to focus on countering out early to protect your board to apply as much pressure as possible before the big guys come. This match up Kaido is absolutely massive. because you just need to refill your hand to get that extra bit of pressure to finish going for lethal. If you do play mihawk be sure to play a Boa on the turn you attack with him because mihawk is an 8k if shanks comes out and he just easily dies.
Vs Lucci - This match up is a 50/50. If Lucci has all the removal early they will win. If they don't.. They probably lose. The goal is to swarm the board as much as possible. Usually they cant attack your board for more than 5k with leader so just counter out as much as you can without wasting resources. Gecko and kaido are important to maintain resources. Try to pressure them as much as you can. If they do turn brook sideways just swing into it for 5 or 6k and get rid of it. You dont need to leader swing into it.. That seems like a waste of an attack. Usually they waste all of their resources popping your early game stuff, if you are able to recrue resources with gecko and kaido you are in a great spot. Doffy players are usually at 4-5 life by the time the Lucci player is at 1. If Kaido sticks thats great.. If not (he likely wont) they waste a bunch of resources getting rid of him and are less likely to have much more removal for the rest of your guys. Also Boa is great against this deck because it allows you to essentially play 2 bodies for one and to attack for 7k.
Doffy mirror - This is probably the hardest mirror to ever exist in the meta game of one piece. Theres so many different options and plays you have with this deck. In the mirror match its generally best to go first. If you are able to apply heavy pressure into your opponents life and follow it up by removing their tempo with bounce law and jozu then youre generally in a great spot. The problem for the player going second is that once you get to a certain life count you HAVE to start countering. And when you start countering it makes your hand size and options per turn dwindle. Once your hand starts to dwindle your board is easily cracked by basic 5k-6k attacks. The gravity blade rule still applies to this match up. If you have multiple bodies already on board thats when you can gravity blade. Kaido is generally not very good into this match up and its rare that you will play it. Never replace teach in the early or mid parts of the game. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP PLAYING JINBE INTO A WARLORD IF YOU HAVE TO REPLACE ANOTHER 4C WARLORD. Another rule for this match up is stop bouncing your own law back when you need to establish enough pressure to go for lethal.
